Altar Servers

An altar server is a lay assistant to a member of the clergy during a Christian religious service. An altar server attends to supporting tasks at the altar such as fetching and carrying, ringing the altar bell and so on.

The altar server ministry at Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish provides parishioners of all ages the opportunity to serve the Lord on His altar.  Training classes are conducted yearly to cover the servers’ duties before, during and after Mass and to provide the necessary understanding and reinforcement of the many altar server responsibilities during the Mass.

There are several adults in the ministry whose duties include conducting altar server training and preparing quarterly schedules for those serving each week and recording altar server attendance.
